Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary is located in Denton, Nebraska, approximately 8
miles southwest of Lincoln. The Seminary was established in 1993 by the Priestly
Fraternity of St. Peter for the formation of English-speaking candidates to the
priesthood, primarily for the Fraternitys North American District. The
Seminary is open to men interested in studying for the priesthood of the Roman Catholic
Church, and who are aspirants to membership in the Fraternity. When the Seminarys
capacity permits, non-aspirant students may be enrolled with the consent of their
ordinaries (diocesan or religious).
In obedience to the wishes of the Holy Father, as expressed in his Motu Proprio
Ecclesia Dei Adflicta, Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary trains priests exclusively
in the use of the liturgical books in force in 1962, including the traditional Latin Mass
as contained in the Missal of Pope Pius V. |

The program of formation is seven years long and consists of the following:
1. One year of Spiritual Formation serves to introduce the
candidate first to the mystery of salvation, and also to the Priestly Fraternity of St.
Peter, its unique charism, its community life, and a disciplined life of study, prayer and
penance. It is during this year that the candidate, under the direction of his superiors
and his spiritual director, seeks to discern Gods Call in his life.
2. Two years of study in philosophy according to the principles and methods of
St. Thomas Aquinas. This philosophical formation is critical in providing the
seminarian with the tools necessary for ordered and critical thinking. This study is
complemented by the disciplines of Latin, Greek, Sacred Scripture and Gregorian Chant.
3. Four years of study in theology. This is a systematic study of
the contents of the Catholic Faith, relying on the guidance of the Magesterium of the
Roman Catholic Church, and on the Summa Theologiae of St. Thomas Aquinas.
This study is augmented by the study of the historical and scriptural bases for the
Churchs dogmas. The final semester of the theologate is spent at one of the
Fraternitys apostolates, practicing the Pastoral Theology aspect of these studies.
SPIRITUAL FORMATIONDuring the entire formation
period, the candidate and seminarian is immersed in classical Roman Catholic spirituality
through the observance of the traditional Latin Mass and sacraments, chanting of the
Divine Office at Lauds, Vespers and Compline, Gregorian Chant Schola, mixed Choir, The
Holy Rosary, weekly Exposition and Benediction and observance of all of the traditional
feasts and holy days of the traditional calendar.
Tonsure and Investiture of the cassock takes place at the beginning of the second
year of formation. Conferring of Minor Orders may begin the following year.
Ordination to the transitional Diaconate is generally at the conclusion of the sixth
year of formation.
COMMUNITY LIFE
Throughout the entire process of formation, the candidate for priesthood is supported
and scrutinized in his character, his sanctity of life and his intellectual aptitude. The
Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter is international in character, and its corporate life
affords many occasions for enrichment and exposure to men from other nations and cultures.
The common life of the seminarians is determined by the Constitutions and the Directory
of Common Life of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.
Following ordination, the priest will be assigned to a particular apostolate of the
Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, where he will serve in community with other Fraternity
priests, administering the sacraments, teaching or taking further studies.
COSTS
Once accepted to the Seminary, the student will be asked to raise $7,000.00 (US), per
year, to help with the cost of his education. Freedom from debt is necessary for
admission, as once in the Seminary, there will be little, if any, opportunity to earn
funds for personal use. |
