St. Gregory's Academy

St. Gregory's Academy is a boarding school for boys in grades 9-12 situated on 190 acres in the beautiful mountains of northeast Pennsylvania. In this setting students are removed from many of the distractions of modern culture. This enables them to focus their attention on the eternal things: on the true, the good, and the beautiful. Our daily routine includes the traditional Latin Mass, the Rosary, a well-ordered series of academic courses, and regular participation in athletic events.
At St. Gregory's our entire aim is the formation of Catholic gentlemen. We offer a liberal arts education following the perennial wisdom of Western civilization. The Academy forms young men who are strong in faith, hope, and charity, and who manifest in their lives the moral and intellectual virtues, including prudence, wisdom, and understanding.
In order to engage the imagination as the foundation for higher intellectual activity, St. Gregory's students read some of the world's best literature and history, memorize poetry and songs, and participate in a wide variety of cultural activities. The Academy boys have themselves given vocal and theatrical performances throughout the area and at the school. Reasoning skills are cultivated by means of such courses as Euclidean geometry, physics and classical logic. Academic and cultural activities are balanced by soccer, rugby, ice hockey, hiking, camping, and other physical activities, all of which build the body while at the same time providing pleasurable recreation.
Underscoring all activities at the Academy is a spirit of reflection upon God, the Source of all that is good and true. Students are given full instruction in the doctrines and moral teachings of the Church, stressing orthodoxy and obedience to the Magisterium. The community life of the school gives the boys a unique opportunity to exercise the social virtues and to serve God through love of neighbor.
The center of life at St. Gregory's is Catholic prayer, the heart of which is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, offered daily in the traditional Latin rite by priests of the Fraternity of St. Peter, with the permission of the bishop of Scranton.
The students of St. Gregory's become skilled altar servers through membership in the Holy Cross Altar Servers' Guild, and have been invited to serve pontifical and other special Masses throughout the east coast. The boys participate in singing Gregorian chant at High Masses and at other traditional liturgical activities such as Compline, Benediction, and processions of the Blessed Sacrament.
Through these means, St. Gregory's makes a real contribution to the liturgical life of the Catholic Church in North America, and trains a new generation to participate with knowledge and devotion in the traditional Sacraments and ceremonies of the Church.
A qualified and experienced staff of lay teachers, together with a resident chaplain of the Fraternity of St. Peter, have dedicated themselves to this formidable task. But this good work could not be accomplished without the aid of others outside the St. Gregory's community who are concerned with proper intellectual and spiritual formation of America's youth. We therefore ask you to remember us in your prayers and to consider providing financial support for our endeavors to form young Catholic gentlemen.
